sky glass

Sky Glass is a service and device from Sky that launched on 18th October 2021. Unlike other Sky products such as your Sky Q box, which requires a satellite dish and a separate Sky Q box that connects to your TV, however, Sky Glass does all this together and puts everything into a single internet-connected TV.

A lot of people are intrigued about this service, what is it? And what features does it have? Today, we’ll tell you all you need to know about, including what it offers, what it is, how much it costs and how it differentiates from Sky Q.

So, let’s get straight into it, what is Sky Glass?

Sky Glass is a TV that incorporates Sky’s services without the need of a Sky Hub, box or satellite dish with what Sky refers to as “the smarter TV,” you can watch any channel, programme, and app through Wi-Fi.

There is no requirement for a satellite dish, a separate box, or a separate TV. Instead, this premium service is intended to be the total deal, combining all of your watching options—including live TV, Netflix, Disney+, and other streaming services—into a single, unified interface.

The TV has squared corners, an aluminium frame, and a stand that matches its colour. It is also carbon neutral. Additionally, a wall mount has been included in the TV design. There are five colour variations available, and each one has a remote that matches the chosen colour.

The specification needed and more about what is Sky Glass?

There are three different sizes available for the Sky Glass TV: 43 inches, 55 inches, and 65 inches. Running the show is a Quantum Dot LED screen with a zoned full-array backlight. It has a 4K Ultra HD resolution and supports the HDR 10 and HLG HDR standards in addition to Dolby Vision. A 60Hz refresh rate is provided.

Furthermore, Sky stated that it will constantly upgrade the TV hardware every two years, allowing users to “switch” to the most recent model. In a similar vein to what Apple and Google do with iOS and Android, respectively, the business also pledges to upgrade the software with new features every year. The CEO of the firm claims that a product roadmap is already planned out through 2025.

Sky Glass includes six built-in speakers that provide a 3.1.2 channel setup with three outward-firing speakers that have a maximum power of 215W, a centre subwoofer, and two upward-firing speakers. It supports Dolby Atmos in all directions.

How is Sky Glass different from Sky Q?

While Sky Glass includes everything in one package, Sky Q requires a satellite dish, a separate Sky Q box, and a TV to put the Sky Q box into. Although the interfaces on the two platforms are different, the content is the same. Through either the Sky Q small box or the Sky Stream Puck, both have multi-room capabilities.

It’s important to keep in mind that the the service experience and its companion ‘Pucks’ do rely on broadband, so if you lose your internet connection, it will prevent you from accessing a great majority of the Sky services, however, a digital TV tuner is at least included so you can continue to watch some TV. The best experience for watching television on this large screen TV is with the television mounted to the wall, for professional wall mounting services, click here.
