About Carlton
Local schools are Parkdale School, Carlton le Willows Academy, Sherwood Academy and The Carlton Academy.
Carlton Central Primary School was established in the late 1800s, but after a piece of masonry fell from the roof onto the school assembly area one night in the 1960s, the school was demolished and the council house and modern Carlton Square were erected in its stead. Carlton Central Primary School was transferred to a new school on Foxhill Road/Carlton Hill. The new school was supposed to replace the decaying St. Paul’s School on Carlton Hill. After several years of futile attempts to secure a new location and funds for a new edifice, St Paul’s was closed in 1983. Carlton Central Primary School is not Carlton’s sole primary school. Porchester Junior School is one of them (which has recently been extended) is situated at the top of Standhill Road.
