About Gosport
Gosport, which is connected to Portsmouth by the Gosport Ferry, is located on a peninsula on the western side of Portsmouth Harbour. Gosport is located southeast of Fareham, and the A32 and a BRT line connect the two cities. Gosport was a significant naval town connected to the defence and supply infrastructure of Her Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Portsmouth until the last quarter of the 20th century. As a result, substantial defences were built over time. Peter Chegwyn was elected leader of the Gosport Borough Council in 2022.
The Borough’s Town area, which includes Newtown, includes the town centre, the Stoke Road commercial district, Walpole Park, Royal Clarence Yard, and three contemporary marinas: Royal Clarence, Gosport Marina, and Haslar Marina.
Haslar Creek runs into Portsmouth Harbour at the harbour mouth to the south of the centre. Haslar Lake is the lowest point of Haslar Creek, which separates into two streams at its western end. Workhouse Lake (the northern branch) and Stoke Lake are their names (the southern branch). Clayhall is located southeast of Stoke Lake and along Gilkicker Point.
